SAFE ENERGY SUPPLIER FOR MORE THAN FOUR AND A HALF DECADES OF OPERATION

 

 

HPP “Piva“ that gives powerfull impuls to stability and functioning of energy system of Montenegro, today marks 46 years of existence. 

During 2021, this large accumulation type hydropower plant produced 838 GWh of electricity. Such a result was achieved thanks to the good operational readiness and commitment of all employees. By the way, since the construction and entry into the system in 1976, HPP “Piva” has produced 34.388 GWh of electricity.

In the final year of the realization is the project of reconstruction and modernization of hydroenergy facility in the canyon of the river Piva. In order to remind You, in the middle of 2018, the Agreement for the reconstruction of electrical machinery and plants was concluded with the Slovenian Company Litostroj Power and the Italian company ABB.

The project documents for equipment fabrication and works execution in the power plant have been finished till now. Installation and commissioning of reconstructed electrical machinery equipment in the self-consumption plants as well as at the one generation unit of the total of three units in the power plant. Till the end of this month one more unit will be put into operation, the second unit will be put into operation according to the agreed order of the execution of the reconstruction and modernization works.

In the continuation of the project, there will be executed the installation and commissioning of the rest third unit in this year.

HPP „Piva“ is large accumulation type hydropower plant with one of the highest concrete arch dam in the world. HPP”Piva” reservoir is approx. 40 km long, with useful volume of 746 million cubic meter of water. As the dam toe plant with the great useful reservoir volume, HPP”Piva” is a flexible source of energy and power. As of specific topography characteristics of the terrain, the complete plant was made under the ground surface. It can be used in any time and for any of the power system needs in the full amount of the available water capacity in the reservoir.
