Earth Day: EPCG supported the campaign for developing the area surrounding Krupac Lake

This year Elektroprivreda Crne Gore has also supported the campaign for developing the area near Krupac Lake planted by poplars. The campaign was organized by NGO Ozon and Lake Fest on the occasion of celebrating Earth Day (April 22).

Aleksandar Perović, the director of the Environmental Movement Ozon, has emphasized that EPCG has traditionally good cooperation with the NGO Ozon and that he hopes that the area planted by poplars of Krupac will be renewed.

He has also emphasized that they found only two poplar tree seedlings in Montenegro, and he proposed for the students of the Secondary Commercial School, who cleaned the area surrounding the reservoir of HPP 'Perućica', to make the tree nursery in the schoolyard.

- Given that the students are future entrepreneurs I propose that they make a little tree nursery, and we will try to animate Elektroprivreda every year as well as the local self-government to buy those tree seedlings from the Secondary Commercial School - said Perović.

Predrag Zečević, the director of Lake Fest music festival which is organized near Krupac Lake, said that this area should be available to the citizens all year long, not only at the time of Lake Fest.

In addition to EPCG, this campaign was also supported by the Nikšić Brewery, the local self-government and the Tourism Organization.

Earth Day was celebrated for the first time in the USA almost five decades ago, after a fatal oil spill. Established in 1970 in the USA, it has been celebrated all around the world since 1992, when the long-term programme for promoting sustainable development was adopted at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro.
